On Friday, March 7th, I will join the Washington Oregon Cascadia Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) as an author presenter. The topic of this year’s Author’s Plenary will be “Intersections and Constellations: On Being Human Now and in the Future” and our conversation will explore humanity, hope, and resilience in the face of climate change. On April 26th, I will discuss climate fiction and read from my novella From the Caves at Portland Community College. The session will address how creative writing can help us confront difficult topics, discover our thinking, and convey complex emotions. Participants are invited to bring their own climate fiction or environment-focused prose or poetry for an open mic sharing. Click here to learn more.
This Thursday, I am traveling to Seattle to be a guest author at Norwescon 46, a science fiction and fantasy convention. On Friday, March 29th, I will join two panels to discuss world building in fiction writing, and on Saturday, March 30th, I will join a literary panel titled “Uncertain Eco-Futures.” I am also scheduled read from my novella From the Caves. On September 22nd, authors Alissa Hattman and I will be reading from our novellas in celebration of Colleen Burner’s new book, Sister Golden Calf (Split/Lip Press). The event will take place at The Stacks Coffeehouse in Portland, Oregon from 6-8pm. Click here for details.
Next week, I will travel to Quincy, Massachusetts to be a guest author at Readercon 32. Readercon is a national conference on speculative literature, and this year’s guests of honor will be authors Jeff VanderMeer and Justina Ireland. On March 16th, I will join authors Curtis Chen and Laura Stanfill to discuss tips for emerging writers at the Hillsboro Public Library’s 2023 Local Authors event. Our “Brave New Writers” panel will be held at the Brookwood Library, 6:30-8pm. Also, on March 18th, I will appear at Hillsboro Reads: Local Authors Expo (12-4:30pm), which will include book signings, pop-up readings, and meet-and-greets with over thirty local authors.
